We had the privilege of catching some of the hottest acts in music at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend in Hull! The line-up featured some of our Ibiza Rocks 2017 acts, who we had the opportunity to see ahead of their sets for us.
Find out below what their sets at Big Weekend consisted of, and what you can expect when you catch them in Ibiza this summer!
Stormzy became the first grime artist to perform on the Main Stage of Radio 1’s Big Weekend and he certainly didn’t disappoint. Earlier this year, he released ‘Gang Signs & Prayers’ which was the first album to reach No.1 in the UK Album Charts. He played tracks from the album including ‘Big For Your Boots’, ‘Cigarettes and Cush’ & ‘Cold’ as well as his first big hit ‘Shut Up’. After performing ‘Shape of You’ with Ed Sheeran at the Brit Awards, Stormzy also included the cover in his Big Weekend set.
After smashing his residency for us last summer, he returns bringing the first ever #MERKY festival with a line-up curated by the man himself featuring J Hus, Dave, Jaykae and many more to Ibiza Rocks this July.WATCH FULL SET SEE STORMZY IN IBIZA
Bastille returned to Radio 1’s Big Weekend for the fourth time bringing the energy to the Main Stage for one of our favourite sets of the weekend. They brought so much energy to the stage, with lead singer Dan Smith involving the crowd throughout! With two No.1 albums to their name, they performed a mix of old & new tracks including ‘Good Grief’, ‘Flaws’ & ‘Pompeii’ as well as their hit cover ‘Of the Night’.

Clean Bandit graced the Big Weekend with an amazing Main Stage performance! The band always experiment with their songs, finding ways to switch up the songs and highlight their unique style. They brought out Anne-Marie for ‘Rockabye’ and Louisa Johnson for ‘Tears’! They also performed old classics such as ‘Rather Be’, ‘Stronger’ & ‘Extraordinary’. From their dancing, to their vocals, the whole set was on point!

The one & only Sean da Paul provided the ultimate vibes for a sun-drenched afternoon in Hull! The legend got the whole crowd moving throughout his set on the Main Stage! He performed all the classic including ‘Temperature’, ‘Get Busy’ and his hit with Beyonce ‘Baby Boy’. He also brought out Dua Lipa for their new track ‘No Lie’.

Royal Blood provided on of the best sets of the weekend! It was hit after hit from the duo who have made their return to the scene this year. They really proved that sometimes, less is more as just the two of them showed how to bring the noise. They headlined the ‘Where It Begins’ stage, getting the crowd hyped. They played old hits such as ‘Figure It Out’ and ‘Come On Over’, mixing in songs from their new album ‘How Did We Get So Dark?’

Dua Lipa is one of the hottest new artists to break the music scene over the last year. She performed on the ‘Where It Begins’ stage with one of the most perfect sets as well as being brought out during Sean Paul’s set. She played her hit songs ‘Hotter Than Hell’ and ‘Be the One’ as well as her collabs with Migos ‘Lost In Your Light’ and Martin Garrix ‘Scared to be Lonely’. She also played brand new music from her upcoming self-titled album.

Mullally performed at the Big Weekend for the first time on the BBC Introducing Stage. His set was one of the Introducing highlights, filled with amazing vocals, and catchy beats. He performed a number of tracks including ‘Troubled Love’ and ‘Overdose’ which have got him noticed over the past few months. Watch this space, Mullally is definitely one of our ‘Ones to Watch’ for this year!
